Captain's Log: Klingon Cruiser

Celebrating the real star of the early seasons of TNG - the Klingon cruiser!

We’re still taking on new crew members as our voyage continues through the back end of season two - just four episodes remaining! I am a little behind in pasting up new WAMs that I have drafted, but there’s still around three months(!) of episodes scheduled to run on WAM Wednesday because I’m so ridiculously regimented about my writing that I even make Data seem somewhat disorganised.

All the appearances of the Klingon Cruiser in seasons one and two of TNG are stock footage taken from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Above you can see just how large this model was and how they filmed it against a blue screen in order to superimpose it into shots. Footage of this studio miniature appears in “Heart of Glory” in season one, and “The Emissary” in season two (coming up in two weeks). Supra-fanonically, this is the K’t’inga class cruiser, the name having been coined in Gene Roddenberry’s novelisation of the first Trek movie.
