35. Romulan Scout Ship

2 episodes: "The Defector", "The Next Phase"

This is such a brilliant model, I’m disappointed it only gets the two appearances in TNG, although it does reappear in later shows. Rich Sternbach created the design sketches (left) by riffing off his earlier Warbird design, and apparently found it very straightforward. Built by Gregory Jein, the result in “The Defector” (top right) is an incredible studio miniature, part alien vessel and part airliner. The modified model (bottom right) was used to represent the Romulan science ship in “The Next Phase” and is pleasingly distinctive in its own right. Jein conducted the modifications, which were nicknamed “Hammerhead”.
