I love a Barclay episode and him being afraid of fairly cute transporter worms makes it even funnier.

Most episodes I remember based on the descriptions... I have absolutely no recollection of this one. I wonder why this is, it sounds... fine.

At first I was going to complain about "billions of kiloquads" -- we do, after all, have more unit prefixes available after "kilo". But then it occurred that people do talk about "thousands of kilometers" -- it would be weird to talk about "megameters" in general conversation. On the other hand, these are technical people, and a billion kiloquads would be only one teraquad!

Having watched all the TNG episodes many times, I'm always surprised when one crops up that I simply don't remember. In this case, the other Barclay episodes are so much more memorable it's not entirely surprising that this one might slip under the mental carpet.

As for unit of measure and their prefixes - there's a lot of weirdness here in a lot of contexts! I am reminded of a drinking friend in Manchester who insists that using miles per hour for vehicular speed is wrong, and that we should use metres per second. I understand his position, but units of measure are the most conventional of conventions, which is just as well as its easy to go from knowing what you're talking about to being baffled by unfamiliar measurements! 😂

But of course, the writers of these shows use certain phrases for dramatic emphasis - hence "billions of kiloquads". We can hardly expect the audience to be wowed by "half a petabyte", which sounds a lot like something you might have for lunch. 😛

All the best,

Chris.
