Oh that makes me want to watch Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home so badly! 👓 I am hoping to show my kids Wrath of Khan soon, but they know nothing of classic Trek and I've no idea how that will land with folks who have only seen TNG.
I try not to think about how so many Trek fans don’t get the original series. Despair! Great writing. Budget constraints meant they had to have good plots, scripts, and acting. I hope your kids get it at some point. There should be a list of TOS episodes, the best ones to try to appeal to younger people.
I was so looking forward to TNG on tv, I was busy working and whatever, but I made time. And the pilot disappointed me so much! Wait! Three chairs on the bridge!!! One is a psycho therapist????
I eventually warmed to it, but I still prefer TOS. Back in the day when we starved for entertainment, and one of those episodes came on, it was such a good feeling. Of course our grandparents thought we were spoiled shits. They were right, of course. From their perspective, we had a comfy couch and air conditioning and tv. We had no farm chores to do. Thanks for the window to reflection.
I still love classic Trek, and although I watched a few episodes with my kids when they were young I realised they were too young to appreciate it and decided to return to it later. It is also a problem for me that I cannot get hold of the first release versions - as a lover of special effects history, I want to see how it was originally done not how later folks have filled in the cracks. But I am patiently sharing sci-fi history with my three boys, and it is a journey we are all enjoying together.

That’s great! I was also dismayed when they “upgraded” the special effects. I appreciate the work they did by hand. Like you I love the models.
Aye, I want to see the fingerprints on the SFX. Studio miniatures, matte paintings - and best of all, stop motion animation! And TNG has it all! 😁
